Development Manager

Leigh Baird

I have been part of the Action Group for over 16 years. I started as a support worker, moved into Real Jobs, then progressed to senior support worker and Team Manager. In 2023, I was thrilled to step into the role of Development Manager. Before joining the Action Group, I worked in the Civil Service, which gave me a solid foundation in organisation and service.

I have always been passionate about supporting others. I volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters, mentoring young people from lone-parent families—a cause very close to my heart, having been raised by a lone parent myself. I have also worked as a Project Worker supporting people with mental health and addiction challenges. I love helping people thrive, and I believe even the smallest achievements are worth celebrating.

Outside work, I am passionate about politics and social justice. I enjoy swimming in the sea or lochs throughout the year and spending time outdoors with my teenage son and our two dogs—it’s the perfect way to reset mentally. I also love socialising with friends and having a laugh. I must admit, I’m a bit of a shopaholic, especially when it comes to clothes, shoes, handbags, and makeup!

As a Development Manager, I am determined to work with my leaders to do the best for the people we support but also for the staff team. It may not always seem like it, but we genuinely care and want to ensure a good work/life balance for everyone.

Helping people flourish is at the heart of what I do, and I feel lucky to be part of a team that makes that possible every day.
