Care Homes

The Action Group offers shared housing with 24-hour support to 19 individuals in four different houses.

Under new legislation, these are now legally registered as Care Homes. They are run by staff working flexible shifts which can include sleepovers or waking night support; this enables them to be responsive to the needs of those for whom they care. Some of those individuals also get a day service from us.

Care Homes provide specialist, high quality support that is based on each individual’s needs. Our commitment to quality was recognised this year when, as an organisation, we succeeded in gaining the Charter Mark.

Within Care Homes we have completed our new, improved, yearly quality evaluation, the results of which were very positive. One key piece of work in this is helping individuals and those close to them to complete their Life Plans. These enable individuals to identify their dreams and goals and assist them to plan and implement changes for the future.

We are always trying to improve our systems to allow service users to be more involved and this work continues with us looking at new ways to consult them at the next evaluation, as well as continuing efforts with the user group.

Staff are our biggest resource and vital to the delivery of quality support. With this in mind many of these teams have now completed the Values into Practice open learning pack, the Introduction to Autism and all new staff have attended Organisational Induction.

Alongside this we continue the ongoing mandatory training such as manual handling and epilepsy awareness as well as regular supervision and performance appraisals.

It is this type of commitment to our staff, which has enabled us to maintain our Investors in People award, following reassessment in November 2002.

Staff will ask you and your relatives regularly how you are getting on and if the service is meeting your needs. If however you become unhappy about the service or treatment you have received then you should tell us.
